Looking at the Eyes of the Scammer

How To Know If  You're the Next Victim?

Scammer is the IT term for " swindler" or in Filipino street lingo, "mandarambong"!  I am writing this because scammers are like stones in the beach, you can't avoid stumbling on them while enjoying the sun:

Scammers lurk the internet games along with hackers.

Oh, I love online games specially RPG where players have interactions and spend money to thrive in the game.  In this interaction that scammers take advantage of. Once you bite their bait, you will wake up with empty warehouse of your important weapons, items and cash. Scammers in RPG's work with hackers who has the know-how to steal your account. Sometimes, the scammer works alone, earning your trust, he enters the pilot relationship with you to level up and empower your account. Once there, he will steal your items and cash , or sell your account for a price and left you teary eyed in anger.

I used to get lots of piloting offers. But I always say No, cordially. Cordially because I don't want to be on the "hot spot" of scammers. There are times I befriend them so that they will exclude me from their list. And I usually succeed. I got saved from their bad intentions.

Scammers are in the social media.

Oh, Facebook has lots of these people! So as matching sites !The Linkedn is also not exempted from this. Some legal matching sites used filter and reporting buttons that its members can click to detect scammer profiles. The Christian Filipina is an example of this site with filter. But in other social sites like Facebook, scammers lurk around freely. It will need your strong discernment to spot them.

I have known girls in our area who fell victims to these people in what they called love scam. Love scam is common in social sites. Most of the victimizers are men. very few women engage in love scam. Love scammers look for women/men profile who are usually single , separated or divorced, with a good job, and whom they perceived to be lonely or some sort, and vulnerable. There are also love scammers who be friend married women who's husbands are working overseas, who cannot share judgement with the activities of their wives.

Honestly, I almost became a victim of a love scammer in Facebook. When I discovered that the person who
befriended me was a scammer, I confronted him. He denied of course but I didn't believe him, later on I learned that he added a friend of mine and befriended her with the same words he used at me. I warned my friend and he ended up deactivating his account. But a local girl in our town, fell to this trap. I learned she gave  a lot sum of money to a love scammer in Facebook who promised to marry her. When the money was sent to the guy through Western Union, the account was deactivated and the guy was never heard of again. It was so bad I learned about it too late.

Scammers are in the streets.

They are usually a gang or a syndicated activity. If you will want to do some banking transaction or just trip walking along the Metro or Centro places, be aware of people who will ask your help about destinations, getting lost, or offering job or business opportunity in the street, I have known a relative who fell prey to this scammer an lost all her savings in exchange for a box full of newspaper strips! police call this "budol-budol".

Scammers are in the net offering business opportunities which are non existent but using the strategy "double your money" or "earn big dividends within one week " or so, enticing you to make investment on their business plan.

But in the advent of fast information through the web, many are still falling on the scamming cob webs. But how to detect if you're being lured to become its next victim is quite simple and  common sense.

Scamming in Social Sites

1. If they add you as a friend in your account. Accept it but browse your new friend's profile. Love scammers now learned to add information about themselves that shows in the display box of their profile. These publicly displayed info are gender, birthday, place where they live (which is very important) and work experience list (which is the 2nd most important thing). Aside from this info, other "About" section is hidden. Photo albums are empty if not hidden. You will read the " Nothing To Show" notice. Look also at their friendlist, you will notice, if not " all women" are friends, 90% are women.
The usual job used by these people are being a soldier, most often of a high rank officer or a businessman. But I have a new friend on the list who uses being a shipyard owner. he knows that I know that he is a scammer.

2. A scammer's next move is to chat you immediately and send you emoticons of plenty of hearts, "be Mine" , "I miss you", "I love you", " I admire you" an all other emoticons that will entice you to chat with them and go back chatting with them again when you go online. By biting this emoticon technique, they have now the hunch that you are open to relationship. In one word, you are vulnerable!

Common sense tell us that its impossible to relate easily to someone who is a perfect stranger, and when the guy or girl on the other line said, he loves you and thinks to marry you... omg! don't be so naive to make "kilig"! You are biting a bait!

3. Check the grammar they are using when they chat you. Through their grammar, you can detect if they are truly the race they claim in their account info. It's so easy to detect if you are talking to an english or spanish speaking person or a ghanan or an indonesian. I guess, in this area, you will need to make further study. But since I work with people, both local and foreign, its easy for me to detect through grammar what race the person I am chatting with.

4. Insisting you and him/her be in a relationship. We all know that relationship is one factor that can make us not say "No" to demands or caring activities. Its a common sense that virtual relationships are nothing more than virtual. So once you are in a relationship, prepare yourself for demands from your new guy out there that you send him your pictures wearing this or that, or nothing at all. But because you are ignoring your instinct, you will send your most seductive picture in the chat box without you knowing that your pictures are being processed to be posted in paid porn sites, or for blackmailing purposes.

4. Or you will be asked to send your new guy/gal money because of so many reasons and afterwards you will get marry.

5. Once you detect them, you can block them if you know that you are a vulnerable. In my case, I have two thousand more friends in Facebook, and five of them are scammers. They know that I know that they are scammers and I don't delete them, I give them the benefit to deactivate their account or unfriend me..anyway, as they said, "pamparami yan sa friendlist". What I did is to change from "Public" to " Only Me" the privacy of my friends list so that they won't have access to my friends' profiles. But of course, I do my responsibility to report them.

Scammers in Business Sites

1. Like hackers, they disguise themselves in links like SEOs. I got victimized in this, posing as a forex trading site. When I checked out the company legality... there was none. Good thing, I only sent P400 ! But you know, P400 is relatively small, but it hurts! It hurts that I was doped! be careful in clicking links.

2. Asking you to invest in money to double your money, or big dividends in a short period of time but you have no idea how the business owners will make you money profit. But still, ask you which is mandatory to recruit other people or invest more to increase your profit. A business without a legit product is a scam. That's how the Securities and Exchange Commission define a scam.

3. A business with limited territorial license but operates outside the limits of their territory luring people to invest on them. An example is this 'gold" bar investment business whose business license is limited to countries in Europe only but not in the South East Asia. If you want to invest on businesses like this, go to their country and invest there so that your share power will be legitimate. License is very important.

Scammers in the Street

These are syndicated activity, with close contact with the criminal. Oh, scamming is a crime.

1. They ask for help. Common sense will tell you, of so many people walking on the streets, and the police standing around the corners, they chose you! Not because, you're a kind looking person but because they believe you have something they need --- money, and you look gullible.

2. They use little children to appeal to your emotion. But look around and looked at the eyes of the kid if its red, or tends to be sleepy. This kid might be drugged and you are standing before a syndicate members or victims also.

3. They will present you with barangay or municipal endorsement witch is as expected, photocopied. They must have borrowed a legit endorsement letter, did  little changes and photocopied. These endorsement may be to give a financial assistance of any amount to a sick person, or a student who want to continue studying and you will be his/her scholarship sponsor. I met people like these. In the Philippines, this is very common. Whenever I encounter  one, I will say, " I will refer you to the DSWD, let us go there." When I say this, the person will go away. Through their reaction you will know, you're talking to a phoney.

But What Must You Do?

1. Be informed. Use the easy to access data bank--- Google. Yeah, Google it! Let me give you a sample:

This is an example of a poser FB account.      You can notice the " nothing to show" note on Photo and                                                Friends section. All you can see in this account are profile   pictures.

What I did, I made a picture search on google and found out that this picture belongs to a VP of a foundation helping AIDS victims, but being used  in three separate accounts with three different names by someone.

When this account chat with me, the chatter's grammar resembled to that of an Indonesian trying to straighten out his tongue. How did I scared him off? When he asked about my college degree, I told him I have a major in psychology. End of conversation!

This is how to do a picture search.
Upload or insert the picture in the google camera icon, then click "search". Sites related to the picture will come out as results.

2. Manage your emotions. Don't be vulnerable. It's okay to be needing but it must be on the right place and the right time with the right person. Social Sites are not that safe, unless you have a real life connection with a person somewhere in the past, and reuniting happened in the social site.

4. When you're being demanded to shelve out some amount of money, small or big amount, you are into the scam trap. Stop communicating!

5. When you're being asked to give pictures of you wearing this or that, or naked , or just a profile pic,.... Stop! Don't forget that in a photoshop, nothing is impossible! And don't forget also that your pic can earn him/her money. When this arise... its best to block the person.

6. Don't be too greedy. Money is money and its so hard to earn it! Greed arise when you start to believe that you can double your money in such a short time without doing anything but their simple steps. And greed raises its hand when you begin to believe that your savings is not enough," I have to get his." It is still a good feeling to enjoy an amount out of your sweat.

Well, I guess, I have said enough. You can enjoy the social media and the street by being wise and alert.

The Philippines : A Humorous Society

The Filipinos are known for their resilience. No matter how difficult the ongoing situations in their lives, they always find a way to escape the tension and the pressure. I think, I can compare the Filipino to a coconut tree. Other than being a tree of life, the coconut has the ability to withstand even the hardest storm, because it sways with the wind that prevents its trunk from being broken, like the bamboo tree; but unlike the bamboo tree, the coconut is a "bright" tree... the Filipino is a bright race, madiskarte, matalino, tuso, malikhain, matiisin, matyaga,  mayabang pero may ibubuga, and most of all, sagana siya sa sense of humor.

Let us cite some proof of this:

The Filipinos has so many internet sensations featuring not just looks  but talents as well.
Filipinos love making selfies.
The gay lingo inventions,
The love advises gurus that lightened the love, courtship and marriage dilemma and made moving on an exciting phase in every ending relationship
to name a few.

The Filipinos also found humor in this tension-filled campaign of Duterte's government against illegal drugs. It is not easy to be a resident living in a drug-laced community. The thought of overtime at work makes me uneasy, Fear occupies my mind. So I have to bring a balisong with me.Its noteasy to learn that a floating body is found in the river, or a along the roadside. One cannot avoid thinking, what if you can be mistaken to a drug addict or a pusher? Omg, so many uncontrollable thoughts about whats happening in the country now.

We all share this common feeling. To ease out the feeling of tension, some Filipinos created "love hugots" or punchlines about love in this political drive in the country. Honestly, reading these hugots made the situation lighter to bear. See, how loving the Filipinos are.

Here are 10 extrajudicial vocabulary words ,(which I prefer to call them that way) I commonly found in the social media,

1. (  Extra judicial Killings  ) Extrajudicial Feelings - When one person projects infatuation onto another without their consent or agreement.
in short, girlfriend ka niya pero hindi mo alam.

Here's one news that PUP students in contrast to extrajudicial killings I found in facebook that earned comments " relate ako dyan"!

2. Buy Bust Operation - When one person gives a lot of gifts and "suhol" to entrap your heart.
3. (Vigilante) Vigilandi - when you make sudden the moves because due process is too slow for you love.
4. (Surrender) Surrendear - when one finally  gives in and declare that you love him/her too.
5. (bureaucracy) Bureaucrazy - young admirer mong baliw na baliw sa iyo
6. (Duterte) Dutertorpe - Yung dinadaan mo na lang sa joke 'yung nararamdaman mo.
7. (Bato Dela Rosa) Pusong Bato Dela Rosa - when you appear to be tough na parang walang nararamdaman pero in reality kilig na kilig ka!
8. (cardboard) careboard - when he/she cares about you too much, its almost boring!
9. Entrapment Operation - Operasyon ng na trap sa pag-ibig ng nakaraan. Di maka move on.
10. Summary Execution - kapag pinatay niya ang inyong pag-iibigan ng walang due process, walang dahilan at walang due notice.

Now can you use them in a sentence?

Humor-izing your difficult situation reinforce endurance and strength to withstand any trial of life. It will also give an adrenalin surge to think properly in times of crisis and survive.

Lets play with words!

Change Is Nearer Than We Ever Thought It Is

The Senate Probe on Extra Judicial Killings of Drug related personalities

Since President Rodrigo Duterte sit in office as Philippine's President this July, the country has put itself in the focus of the world because of the President's campaign against illegal drugs which according to Senator Tito Soto has affected the 100% barangays of Manila, and the provinces. To the point of perspective of the Filipinos, there is no barangay in the Philippines without illegal drugs situation and  influence. With the illegal drugs proliferation during the Aquino Era, (Aww, its Tuwid na Daan advocacy focused only on political revenge, they neglected the drug menace happening then, was a total disappointment to the Filipinos.), security has left not only the streets but also the homes, may it be day or night.

We, the Filipinos are thankful to have voted for the right president. With the slide down of crime rate from July to August, since the implementation of the campaign against illegal drugs, one can easily analyze that majority of the crimes committed by Filipinos, whether heinous or petty were all illegal drugs influenced! How thankful we are for this small bit of air of change we are breathing now!

To any good intention and plan, there is always a devilish attack to stop or thwart the good deeds. We, Filipinos, as witnesses to the happenings in our country, are so adapted to this scenery. A hero always have a villain! And when the hero exposes the dark sides of every character in the movie, the hero gets mauled, and killed. But to my amazement, in my following the senate probe on extra judicial killings of drug related persons, I noticed that all the panel are supporters of the campaign, where only one person, the Chair lady De Lima has a questionable stand, since she was named as one of those druglords protector. ( I feel that the whole country is just viewing an action movie of Lito Lapid or Edu Mansano  in that sense... very theatrical! , which I think the Chair Lady De Lima didn't bother to notice.)

And of course, following an exposure of the crime, the criminals turned witnesses under rehabilitation program, the annihilation plan of the drug syndicates will follow.... and perhaps, this explains, as most of us feel, the extra judicial killings of the drugs surrenderees. Napaka dali namang ipaliwanag at i trace ang mga nangyayari, ewan lang bakit kinukumplikado pa ng senado at ng CHR. But we also believe that those who oppose might be hiding something something...mmmm.

Following the campaign, also exposes so many ordinances and regulations that were designed to protect us but were not implemented, or if implemented were not pushed through consistently! We felt that the previous governments were not really serious in protecting us, but serious in increasing per capita income of the economy, which were never felt by the poor but gave rejoicings to the rich capitalists of the country. Mmm may point.

To any change that needs to be done, there is pain and mess. As, Sun Tzu principle of change will need removal of evil elements . Eve the Bible stated that for a godly nation to rise up, the evil must be purged and  in purging there is blood..blood that comes from all sides.  It is a human civilization process... wag na mag react , mag respond na lang.

We, the residents of this country, dream to live peacefully, sustainably, secured and proud of our country. We look forward to a clean governance of our government. We also look forward to  a safe living in congruence to the tourism ad of the DOT. But we are not losing hope, we are praying to uphold our new president and his people, and we are waiting...and as we wait, we are watching too.

Season of Fire

" And these are the days
 of Your servant Moses
righteousness being restored..."

so goes the song of Paul Wilbur which I  remembered while rolling the 300 meatballs for the 93 hungry tummies of little kids we are feeding three times a week from the tribe community lying near the bay of Batangas.

Last month, I brought my daughters to a Jollibee  fastfood store to eat.  I saw an old time friend and we chat a little. She told me how terrible our days are today...the crimes, famine, threat of wars  and immorality prevailing in the world. telling me, "looks like tribulation days huh.". I don't know if she heard me said.."Oh no, it's just normal. These kinds of happenings are expected.." She said a lot of things that all I said was, "Oh, God is in control...". and  the rest are " ahhh...ahhh...mmm..??"

You know how slow I am to speak.

I bear that incident in mind. And I went back to devoting my time to study the present season. I used to do this, because I believe that like the natural seasons of the earth --- man has his own season in every year or decade that comes to his life. And this season or seasons are what life coaches and business coaches try so hard to determine in order to  gauge the success rate of the industry to where they are engaged in, so they can use it in advising and assisting their clients. Businessmen engaged in high time and high end businesses consult the services of  clairvoyants, fortune tellers and feng shui masters in order to tract and gauge their success rate. Wew, to this action! A person doesn't need to consult a spiritual practitioner. There is a loophole to this action.

I will just present a gist of the present season to give an encouragement and a light of what we are seeing and experiencing in the present time. In our country, the Philippines, the prevailing crime is human trafficking-- kidnapping of little children and young women by syndicated groups to sell their organs in and out of the country. I read an article that says, our country, since 2002 is still in the top 100 position in human trafficking.
So much for the human trafficking that created fear.

The season of fire  arrived with a season of cleansing in our lives: negative situations occur that brings out our attitude, responses and character. These situations test our strength and exposes our weaknesses. They also exposes loopholes, deceptions and secrets we are holding inside, or are not blind spots to us. As fire burn the flammable materials, our negative responses and "materials" are "brought to light" to be "burned". Sometimes, they are accompanied by criticisms, rebuke, reprimands and discipline from other people that add to the pain that we are experiencing.

The global happenings  are triggers to "bring out" what we are, who we are and how stable we are. Our anger, disappointments and depressions are the responses that comes after the "exposure" a.k.a. "burning".

Looking at our situations in the light of humility and God's word :

God is in control. The cleansing is needed to bring about in our lives a greater fruit of our labor, hopes and   aspirations in life. That's how good the heaven's plan for each man. How can we be given great things if we are not capable of handling them?

So you see... it's a preparation. To be prepared, exert the positive responses and attitude in handling negative situations.

How strong we are? Great things need strength and stability of both mind and physique in order to handle them. Hindi pwedeng panay  kilig at tili lang ang gagawin natin habang nakahalayhay sa ating harapan ang mga magagandang bagay na matagal mo nang inaasam! ahehehe  :D

We may be surrounded by crimes, immorality, famine, war, persecutions, ....in a "name it, you have it" place...   what can we get from it? absolutely nothing! But it can answer a question : "why are these things in this world?"  Eh bakit nga ba???

These things will usher in righteousness. They are like grim woodland at the foot of cinderella's castle. Like trashes under the sofas and closets, these sins will not be purged if they will not be exposed to the light.

Fire sanitizes.

When unrighteousness prevails, the people look for righteousness. They began to see the differences. They learn to judge correctly. They overhaul their conscience and begin to think purely.

Man will one day abhor sinning and seek righteousness. Mananawa rin siya.  Hmmm  medyo matagal pa siguro ito! When all men do the seeking...righteousness will prevail. And righteousness will fill the earth. Then we live in peace in the simplicity of our lives.

When a person is able to deal with cleansing in his life, there comes fruits of his labors. I say, a fruitful season this will be for him. The season of fire will come and go quickly. Wisdom is needed to deal with it. We need to be sensitive about the situations in our lives and surroundings, so we can avoid being disillusioned, trapped in our emotions, sink deep into depression and helplessness...and become slaves to our fears.

It is encouraging to know that our Creator--our God is in control of all things. He will not allow imbalance. Though he cannot swing His hands to immediately eradicate the evil things of this world, He controls, so the people will live. It is imaginable--- if God will swing His hands to eradicate evil, all men will die. He loves His people beyond measure, so He is willing to wait for us to seek righteousness ourselves to eradicate evil.

"How come you know the seasons?" came the question I frequently hear.

My answer:  " You should have paid attention to your teachers when you were taking history classes."
There is the answer.  :D

History repeats itself when man fails to grasp the learning from it.

Freedom

The Word of God said : "If the Son therefore shall make you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36)
Philosophers and great men of our times said that real peace stems from real freedom, and real freedom comes from within. Real peace is the measure of such freedom. But how can one achieve real freedom? Isn't  physical freedom like living in a democratic atmosphere connotes freedom?

Jesus, the highest authority on earth said that real freedom is to be spiritually free. And spiritual freedom is given by God.  Psychologists and medical practitioners agree to that.

How?
How come?

Those are the two questions we will answer on this blog series. We will answer those questions based on the   light of truth -- the Word of God.

Fix our belief system. Tap the truth.

We were raised to believe that:

A. We are all children of God and we were born with an already existing relationship with Him. The Word of God contradict this man-made belief.

   - We are born with an inherent sin from Adam and Eve when they rebelled against God. And that sin separated them and us, mankind from God.

" Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed
upon all men, for that ALL have sinned. For until the law, sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed
when there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from Adam to Moses, even OVER THEM that
had not sinned after the SIMILITUDE of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to
           come." - Romans 5: 12-14

" Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
But your iniquities (sin) have separated  between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face
from you, that He will not hear." - Isaiah 58:1-2

B.  Baptism can remove our sins and reunite us with God.

Baptism cannot remove the sin that separated us from God. It can never  reunite us with Him. The Bible stated instances wherein this myth was contradicted : The first is the criminal on the cross who believed Jesus  when both of them were dying on the cross. Jesus didn't required him to be baptized or do anything to go with Him to paradise. You can read the story in John 23: 39-43.

The second is Simon in Acts 8: 9-25. Simon was baptized and yet his baptism didn't purged his sin of sorcery.

C. Doing good things to other people, being kind  and being religious will remove our sins and reunite us with God.

The Word of God stated that our good works, and being religious are like dirty rags before Him.

" But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a
leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind have taken us away." - Isaiah 64:6

Judas Iscariot belonged to the twelve disciples and yet he is not right with God.
Cornelius in Acts 10 was a religious man together with his household but he recognized that his being religious is not enough  that he asked the Apostle Peter to teach him the right way to get right with God.

Get right with God - the secret to real freedom that gives out perfect peace.

This is the most dramatic moment in every person's life -- to get right with God. It is just a prayer said by a broken and humble heart before God. No need for long, and eloquent words --just an honest heart that says:

"I acknowledge oh God that I am a sinner and I sinned against You."  Unless we recognized and acknowledge that we are separated from God because of our inherent and progressive sins, we will not see our true spiritual condition. We cannot  mend ourselves. We cannot be right with a righteous God. Romans 3:10 said-- "No one is righteous before God."

" I repent from all my sins, and I ask for Your forgiveness."  Repentance and asking for God's forgiveness is the second thing that follows after our recognition of our sinful state. Kahit naman sa tao ganun din ang proseso to get right with out enemies.

" If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all our
        unrighteousness." - I john 1:9

God's forgiveness will erase all the sins we have, no matter how grievous they are. How does God erased our sins? He paid for it in the cross for us. He paid for all our sins. He died to set us free. He is the ransom to set us free from our slavery in sin and our ways. He paid for our death by dying for us. He even paid for our diseases and pains in the cross. He did everything for us because by our own, we cannot set ourselves free.

" I recognize Christ's death on the cross for me and I accept  Jesus Christ in my heart as my personal Lord and Savior."   To open our hearts and let Him come to our lives is to have a personal relationship with Him. Having a personal relationship with Him make us right with God. Becoming His sons as stated in John 1:12, connotes a reunited state with God. Even more-- we become His children.

" But as many as received Him (Jesus Christ), to them gave He power to become the sons of God,
even   to them that BELIEVE on His Name." - John 1:12

The way to real freedom is so simple. Sin complicates our lives. It steals our peace and joy. It also forfeit the opportunities to enjoy life to the fullest as God intended for us. Sin enslave us to so many things.  To be free, we need Jesus Christ who has paid for our freedom and did what we cannot possibly do. When we allow Jesus in our hearts, things will change, we will change. We will see the full light of our lives, of ourselves. We will experience peace and joy in spite of living in the midst of a difficult world. Aside from that, He will give us eternal life--- means when we die, we get to heaven. There is life after death-- that is a life with God.

If you want to get right with God, please pray with me :

" Our Father in heaven, I come to You. I want to get right with You. I am a sinner. I recognize my sins. Please forgive me of all my sins. Cleanse me from my sins. Set me free from my loneliness, my vices, my broken ways of living. Set me free from my sins. heal me from all my pains and sicknesses. Forgive me oh Lord from all of my mistakes and shortcomings. Forgive me. I believe in Jesus Christ who died for me and who paid for all my sins. I ask Jesus to come into my heart and life and I accept Him as my personal Lord and Savior. I allow Him to take over me and change me, and fill my life with peace and joy. Thank you for saving me. Thank you for the eternal life. I pray this in the Name of Jesus, my Lord and Savior. Amen."

If you have prayed that prayer, you are now free!

The way to freedom and peace is struggle free. It is just a matter of faith in Jesus Christ.

If you have questions regarding this, please free to leave a comment. I tell you, the message of Jesus Christ is saturating even the most difficult religion on earth, pulling down the stronghold of false belief on God and His offer of salvation and freedom. Thousands are coming to Christ everyday experiencing real freedom and peace.

Let our eyes be open to the truth. Huwag tayo mahiya. We are accountable to ourselves. God loves us so much, He died to set us free.

He loves you.  Pursue Freedom.
